This website is the Silent Spring creative archive, which contains music, poetry, art, and photography that we want to share with the world. We will also include links and shoutouts to other artists that we admire and hopefully work towards making our internet a little bit more creative, friendly, and communal. Please enjoy the material you find here, be kind to others, and feel free to get in touch and to share your thoughts :)
What is Silent Spring
Silent Spring is a musical entity named after the seminal work of Rachel Carson. Our goal is to make incisive music that prioritises human creativity, experimentation, and intensity. One of our core beliefs is that of digital sovereignty, which we recognise as a fundamental right for art and human expression. As an alternative to algorithmically driven news and art feeds, we believe that artists should have sovereignty over their own digital spaces. In doing so, we demonstrate an alternative to the endless data harvesting, plagiarism, and general cheapening of creativity to generating trends and profit for multinational big-tech. Instead, we want to revive the dream of the early internet, where there was a true sense of experimentation, innovation, and expression. We have created this space with the hope that we inspire others to take similar steps to reclaim their own digital sovereignty. This website was written by hand, and the skills to do so were acquired through communally sharing between peers the knowledge of how to create a website. Which is also a skill that we invite you to study and participate in too.
